Basic Definitions

This is a list of some of the unfamiliar words you may encounter while reading this information. If at anytime the material you're reading becomes confusing or you just can't seem to remember what you just read, there was a word earlier that you didn't know the meaning of. Once you've located the unknown word, look it up here or in a good English dictionary. This is very important.

Dianetics

Dianetics spiritual healing technology is man's most advanced school of the mind. Dianetics comes from 'Dia' (Greek) “through,” 'nous' (Greek) “soul.” “or through the soul”. Dianetics is further defined as “what the soul is doing to the body”. It is a way of handling the energy of which life is made in such a way as to bring about a greater efficiency in the organism and in the spirtual life of the individual.

Scientology

Scio (Latin), know, logos (Greek), the word or outward form by which the inward thought is expressed and made known. Thus Scientology means knowing about knowing.

Reactive Mind

That portion of a person's mind which works on a totally stimulus-response basis, which is not under his volitional control and which exerts force and the power fo command over his awareness, purposes, thoughts, body and actions. The reactive mind is where engrams are stored. Also called bank.

Analytical Mind

The conscious aware mind which thinks, observes data, remembers it and resolves problems. It would be essentially the conscious mind as opposed to the unconscious mind. In Dianetics and Scientology the analytical mind is the one which is alert and aware and the reactive mind simply reats without analysis.

engram

A mental image picture which is a recording of an experience containing pain, unconsciousness and a real or fancied threat to survival. It is a recording in the reactive mind of something which has actually happended to an individual in the past and which contained pain and unconciousness, both of which are recorded in the mental image picture called an engram. It must, by definition, have impact or injury as part of its content. These engrams are a complete recording, down to the last accurate detail, of every perception present in a moment of partial or full unconsciousness.

psychosomatic

psycho refers to mind and somatic refers to body. The term psychosomatic means “the mind making the body ill” or “illnesses which have been created physically within the body by derrangement of the mind.”
